AustralAsians Report #1

The Championships started with a prematch competition which is designed to allow Range Officers and Officials including Regional Directors and Team Managers the opportunity to shoot prior to the main match.

The 24 very well laid out and challenging stages require in excess of 400 rounds to complete the course.

The IPSC Thailand organizing body have done an exceptional job in preparing the facility and their embracing friendly welcome has been appreciated by all of the Australian contingent and competitors from the other 30+ countries competing in the AustralAsian 2007 Championship.

IPSC Australia held an official Team Meeting last night, Tuesday at the match hotel - A-one Cruise Resort Hotel, Pattaya - this gave Team Manager, Des Lilley, the opportunity to go over ‘housekeeping’ details with the Team members and the participation of the Team members in accepting their responsibilities as ambassadors of our sport and Australia was outstanding.

The Opening Ceremony was held today with the IPSC World President who officially declared the Championships open. Thia officials formally welcomed all participants to the Championships. The entourage of 7 coaches was provided with a police escort to and from the hotel to ensure our timely arrival for the ceremony and return to the hotel.

The Main Match starts tomorrow (Wednesday, December 05, 2007) at 8.00a.m. with most Team members leaving the match hotel at 6.30a.m.

There will be a staggered start with those Team Members leaving at 6.30a.m. commencing at 8.00a.m. and the remaining Team Members starting at Midday. This timetable is reversed daily over the 4 day period.”

AustralAsians Report #2

Today was the first day of official competition for the 2007 AustralAsian Championship. Competitors and officials left the match hotel in coaches at 6.30am for an 8.00a.m start and we once again appreciated the assistance we received from the Thai Police for the escort they provided for all coaches to and from the range facility.

The Championship runs over 4 days with competition staggered morning and afternoon on alternate days. This meant that the afternoon competitors coaches left the hotel at 11.00am for a 1.00pm start.

We have 70 International Range Officers from 25 countries including 8 from Australia officiating during the competition.

Todays competition went well. We had perfect shooting conditions with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s

Today is a very special day in Thailand as along with the Thai people we celebrated the King’s 80 birthday. The whole country is celebrating with the King. Tonight the hotel staff assembled out the front on the road holding candles to sing the National Anthem at 8.00p.m. and we enjoyed the fireworks display in honour of the King.

We will issue a further bulletin tomorrow.

AustralAsians Report #3

The IPSC Thailand Australasian Championships was one of the smoothest run International matches I have been to and full credit to the organizing body. The match itself was well planned and stages fitted out with many swingers and steel poppers and plates. I am sure those who competed will remember the target movers and swingers.

The Australian competitor contingent were all well received, as were our range officers. All conducted themselves on the range in a very professional manner and although not all our team members achieved a medal or trophy, they sure were ambassadors for our sport and country.

Brodie McIntosh’s third place in Open Men’s was outstanding considering he had a broken part in his firearm half way through a stage which cost him many points, and if this did not occur I am sure he would have taken out 1st place.

Our Regional Director Gareth Graham took out 6th position in Open Men's and David McConachie also took out 7th which was a great achievement for Australia. In Junior division, Justin Arthur achieved 3rd and Rhys Arthur placed at 5th position which was an outstanding performance from our Juniors.

Linda Blowers who finished second in Ladies Open Division displayed not only her skills in the sport but a very professional sportsmanship when she was presented with the Presidents medal by mistake. Linda then presented it to the rightful person after leaving the presentation stage. Linda we all congratulate you as a leading ambassador for IPSC Australia.

Mario Mori came 3rd in Standard Division and Rob Woodhouse achieved 4th in Senior Standard which added to the success of the team members including the teams placements in Open and Standard.

Team results .

Open AUSTRALIA 2nd there were 7 teams entered. Brodie McIntosh, Gareth Graham, David McConachie, Justin Arthur.

Standard AUSTRALIA 1st. there were 8 teams entered. Mario Mori, Tony Constable, Mick Barns, Rob Woodhouse.

Production ------------------- there were 10 team entered.

Open Seniors AUSTRALIA 2nd there were 2 team entered. Gil Young, Stan Machin, Peter Bennet, Rick Young.

Juniors AUSTRALIA 1st there were 1 team entered. Rhys Arthur, Jarrod Goddan, Kris Kalinski.

Congratulations to all the team members.

The weather was hot and at times dusty on the range, with squads shooting in the morning on the first day, then moving to the afternoon the next day which gave the competitors time to refresh ready for the next day. Buses which were escorted by Thailand traffic police was very helpful and made the trip to and from the Range very quick, through red lights and all. On one occasion the Juniors travelled in the back of the Police car and an IPSC Australia member was in the front operating the siren at each intersection. 'Australia leading the way again’.

I take this opportunity to congratulate all our Australian team members and selected representatives for their cooperation and their dedication to operate as a team. To have team captains appointed was an advantage during the championships as each team worked together as an operating unit

Congratulation to all our Range Officers who in my opinion upheld the skills and the standard that Australia has achieved over many great International competitions. To all Australian members who ventured to Thailand for this outstanding and enjoyable match " Congratulations ".
